How To Lay EPDM Roll On Roofing 2019
Here are a few simple tips we would like to share with you:
Choose The Right Material
Before we learn how to add EPDM roll on roofing. The number 1 point to note about EPDM rubber is that they are made from synthetic rubber. All synthetic rubber is not compatible with asphalt-salt based roof coating. These materials contaminate the EPDM rubber material.
Prep The Roofing Surface
It is a good practice to start with a clean and dry roof surface. Any trapped moisture residue from the wipedown will affect the performance of the adhesive. So always remember to clean the roof surface off any grease, dust, dirt, and debris. Let it completely dry from any vapors and moisture before we start to lay the roof with EPDM roll.
Ponding water is the unwanted pool of water on the roof surface. Hence a good roof surface typically has a slight downward slope to prevent the collection of ponding water.
Cut The Roll To Size
Measure the total roofing area. Unroll the EPDM roll over the area. Let the roll relax for 15 to 30 mins until you do not see any wrinkles or creases on the roll material. Begin at the edge of the roof and cut the excess of at least 3″ for both breadth and length measurements.
Prime The Area
Apply a thin and even coat of EPDM roof primer. Ensure that the primer covers the entire surface for the best results.
Install EPDM Roll
After you have applied the EPDM primer, follow with a coat of single-ply EPDM adhesive. Press the roll onto the roof and roll in back and forth with a roller. Remove all trapped pockets of air between the two surfaces.
Seal Off The Sides
Finish the corners and seal off all sides. Congratulations on completing all the above steps. We hope you have had a fruitful journey with learning how to lay EPDM roll on roofing in 2019.
